More party info...

Okay, so this is a grown up party. The kids will be sleeping at their grandparents' house. So, here's what I'm thinking:

Food:
  • seven layer dip
  • fruit kabobs or fruit salad
  • chicken satay or chicken shish kebab
  • something with corn
    (this is really hard...)

Drinks: (much easier):

  • beer- summer ales if we can find them, corona, blue moons with oranges, etc
  • mudslides
  • pina coladas
  • margaritas

Dessert:

  • popsicles
  • ice cream cake?

This is totally not frugal... what was I thinking?!?!

We always go to the club warehouse places for parties..I think its def a ton cheaper for booze there! Since you know your menu start shopping sales or manager mark downs :)

Ice cream cake is super expensive. What about buying a 5 gallon pail of ice cream and doing cones? Adults so rarely eat ice cream cones, but at a party, I think it would be fun!

BYOB AND POTLUCK! deep breath. everyone will bring things. gladly. no one (no one decent, at least) wants to show up empty handed to a party! start delagating and assigning things!

I agree - potluck!
Also instead of making a meal plan and then buying stuff, have you thought about trying to buy stuff that's on sale over the next few weeks and planning the menu from that?

One tasty and cheap option (when you find shrimp on sale) is this:

Mexican is always cheap - keep the seven layer dip, have a burrito and taco bar. Then you can have deep fried ice cream (or something like that)
Also when people ask what to bring tell them alcohol.
I wish I could be there - I so need an adult only party
